Stylish label enters womenswear field

15 June 2010

A new label catering to the modern woman's fast paced lifestyle is set to launch at the upcoming edition of Fashion Exposed in Melbourne. The creation of designer Simone Flanagan, Back Paddock makes the most of non-synthetic fabrications to offer stylish, lightweight, low-care clothing that travels well and is available in plus sizes.

"The fabrics selected for each story focus on using natural fibres, mainly wool blends in varying densities combining interesting finishes," Flanagan said. "One of my favourite combinations is the lightweight crinkle wool line that can travel in a suit case, crushed into a tiny ball and can be worn without ironing as multiple layering pieces, providing thermal properties for any climate."

Offering an impressive depth of range, the Back Paddock collection also included lightweight layering pieces to heavy jacquard knitted jackets and classic wool coats, she said.

"Rabbit and fox fur knitwear are exciting, exotic garments that feel incredible to touch and warm to wear."

Fashion Exposed would perform a "pivotal role" in introducing the brand and product range to the market, she said.

"It enables any supplier to showcase their whole range and colour palette in one space, and receive immediate customer feedback, which is invaluable information."

Flanagan, who studied fashion design at RMIT in the 1980s before training as a cadet apparel buyer for Coles Myer, has had a solid track record in designing and launching brands. Early in her career she started an outdoor clothing label called Adventureline and has also held key production roles for high recall labels such as Sportsgirl and Witchery.

"Now at 40 something I am focusing on my own fashion label, which aims to create styles that are comfortable, warm to wear, stylish and affordable for women my age who lead busy lives but still want to look good."

Back Paddock is set to showcase at Fashion Exposed from 29-31 August at Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
